WHEELOCK ANGLING SOCIETY.

Newsletter 2000-1

The new season is well under way now and hopefully sport has picked up on our waters after a slow start.

One of the Committee’s aims over the last couple of years has been to find a new water to secure the long-term future of our club. After a long and difficult period of negotiation by our Secretary Doug Summers, Wheelock Angling Society has acquired a lease to fish two new waters, which have not been fished before.

The two waters are located between Holmes Chapel and Knutsford and are in a very picturesque setting with good access and secure parking. A map showing the exact location is enclosed with this newsletter.

The larger of the two lakes, Cotton Moss, is 15 acres in size and will be developed as a mixed fishery including Bream, Roach, Tench and Carp.

The smaller water, Cotton Park, is 4 acres in size and will contain a small number of large Carp and smaller Tench and a few other species.

Both lakes are clear with a sandy/gravel bottom with good weed growth, which is full of natural food.

The waters will NOT be open for fishing until January 2001 but members are welcome to visit the lakes and have a look around. DO NOT PARK IN THE LANE when you visit the lakes. The landowner is very sensitive to this and is very nervous of having anglers on his land after hearing “horror stories” of litter and bad behaviour from other farmers operating day ticket waters.

If you do visit the lakes, park in the car park and keep to the areas shown on the map. If the landowner finds no problems with our members on his land then there is a good chance that access to more of the banks will be given.

The Annual General Meeting will be held, as last year, at the Sandbach United Services Club at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday 7th November 2000.

Please attend if you can, as we will be deciding on fees and membership levels at this meeting and the more members that are present the better, so that we can get the best view of their opinions.
