NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2004

AGM 2004

This years meeting was started with a minutes silence for two club members that had sadly passed away during the last year.

Mabel Perry had been a keen member of the club for many years and was well known on Crabmill she was a keen participant in the club matches. There is an excellent article on the club website that gives an insight into the life of a remarkable lady. Mabel’s family have kindly donated a trophy to the club that will be fished for each year in the club matches.

Matthew Booth was a regular Carp angler at Brereton. Mathew's loss at the age of 29 was very tragic and with the wish of his parents we intend to hold a series of overnight Carp matches on Brereton in his memory with the proceeds going to the club stocking fund. You will be notified of further details.

At the meeting Doug Summers stood down as the Secretary to follow a new challenge by moving to France. Doug will be missed by us all; he committed himself 100% to the club and was responsible for securing the lease to Cotton Moss and Cotton Park. We all wish Sue and Doug the very best for their new life in France.

Pete Rushton also stood down as the Chairman. Some of you may know that Pete has suffered serious ill health in the last year and now needs the time to devote to his well being and to his family. In his duty as Chairman Pete was always totally committed to the club, he turned out for meetings and work parties when none of us would have expected. His strength should be an inspiration to us all. We would like to extend our thanks to Pete and wish him and his family well for the future.

At the committees recommendation it was passed that Doug and Pete should be awarded life membership of the club.

The new committee is as follows

Chairman                                            Dave Colclough.

Vice chairman                                      Terry Madeley

2 new rules were passed

1           No firearms i.e. pistols or rifles of any description are allowed on any of the Society’s waters.

                (Unless with committee permission)

Any member caught with any of these on the waters will automatically lose their membership of the Society.

2        Any member wishing to stand for a position on the committee must have been a member for a minimum of 5 years; however the committee of the Society can use its discretion to take a member of less year’s membership if they consider this to be beneficial to the Society.

New Waters

Again with great help from Doug the club have obtained two new waters for the 2005 season, these being Baddiley Mere and Baddiley Reservoir. These waters are located between Nantwich and Whitchurch. The mere is a 10 acre lake with a 15 angler limit and the Reservoir is a 5 acre lake with an 8 angler limit.

The Mere is already a general mixed fishery and is known to contain Pike to over 20lb, Perch to over 3lb, quality Tench and Bream, indeed it held the Cheshire Bream record for a short period in the 1970's. We know of a 16lb Common Carp and we have recently been told of 20lb Carp being caught over 10 years ago.

By the middle of January we will have introduced over thirty Carp to the low 20lb mark. The majority of these are the Mark Simmonds Fishers Pond strain.

The reservoir was last used as Trout only water. There is a stocking of Browns and Rainbows and very little else. These Trout must not be removed at the owner’s request. We have now introduced 61 Carp to 23lb 12oz, with several more 20’s and 19lb fish; again they are mainly the high quality Fishers Pond strain. The intention is to run the reservoir as Carp only water.

These waters will be available on the 2005 ticket. As with all new waters the landowner is very nervous about people on his land and the greatest respect must be shown to the owners and their lakes.

There will be specific rules for these waters with your 2005 membership.

Match and work party dates for 2005 have yet to be decided.

Although we have had a setback with Crabmill, our members can expect more quality fishing on club waters in 2005.

Cotton Moss will be treated for the weed which will allow more members to take advantage of the excellent Carp fishing, there is a very good chance the large Common will hit 30lb+

Cotton Park produced its first 30, this fish made an appearance twice this autumn, there are also a number of very good 20’s to back this fish up.

Brereton has also fished very well this year, producing many 20’s to 26lb this year. Brereton provides excellent all year round sport. The Pike fishing is also showing a bit of a revival this winter, with 1 or 2 members catching a few nice bags.

The Plex was as consistent as ever in 2004 for the Carp with several fish over 20lb. There are also a large number of beautiful small Carp now that are excellent sport on the float.

The committee would like to wish all members and their families

a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
