WHEELOCK ANGLING SOCIETY.

Newsletter May 2003

Due to a number of carp being found tethered or trailing dangerous rigs the Committee of the Society has decided to implement certain new rules from the 1st July 2003 to try and eliminate this happening in the future. One fish that was pulled out of Cotton Moss was towing 12ounces of lead and is lucky to be alive, all thanks to a caring member. These decisions were not taken lightly but the fish stocks are the Members and the Societies biggest asset and as such have to be protected from mindless individuals.

It appears that some angler’s are using BENT HOOKS as a number have been removed from fish at Plex and Cotton Moss and some of these are new, not old ones, even so the rules have banned bent hooks for years so this is not a new rule but is restated so no one can misunderstand.

By BENT HOOKS we mean CARP R US NAILERS, FOX SERIES 5, LONGSHANK NASH FANGS and any other similar pattern that has a shank that is bent; these are mostly long shank patterns. These hooks can do an untold amount of damage to a fish’s mouth and in the worst cases can double hook the fish causing certain death. Please note we are not talking about hooks that have out turned or in turned eyes.

The Committee has decided if any member is caught using these hooks there will be no ban they will be expelled from the Society.

NEW RULES with effect from 1st July 2003.

1)   Braided main line is banned on all Society waters.

2)   Braided shock leaders are banned on all Society waters.

3)   Anchorlock Lead clips are banned on all Society waters.

4)   All other lead clips like KORDA, NASH etc must have the lead retaining leg cut down and the rubber that pushes over this should not be pushed on that tight that it cannot release the lead easily. If in doubt do not use them.

The Committee has decided if any member is caught breaking these rules there will be no ban they will be expelled from the Society.

Rig and line checks will be taking place throughout the season to ensure that these rules are being adhered to.
