Newsletter December 2006

Thank you to all that attended the 2006 AGM. The venue was changed due to the unsuitability of the previous venue.

Anthony Birchall has resigned as General Secretary due to personal circumstances. The society thanked him for his services, and wished him well.

I, Peter Bailey have been voted to take on the position including the Membership Secretary / Treasurers position.

Terry Madeley has also resigned from the committee after many years service, we wish him well for the future.

The following rule changes and plans for 2007.

Any member wishing to put their membership on a “RETAINER” for 12 months can do so by making a payment of £10 by the end of February.

Names on the “Retainer List” will get 1st refusal of membership applications the following year, should any vacancies arise.

(PLEASE NOTE: It will be the members responsibility to pay this annually. The renewal deadline will be the end of February. If no correspondence has been received by then, the name will be removed from the list).

Juveniles up to the age of 12 to be limited to 1 rod only, over the age of 12 to be limited to 2 rods only.

It has been another difficult year for the society for several reasons.

After negotiations with the landlord, the Society has decided NOT to renew the lease on Crabmill. (1st January 2007 onwards).

Baddiley Reservoir experienced an algal crash causing an oxygen depletion. This was the cause of twenty carp deaths.

A pump was hired to speed up the re-oxygenation process which alleviated any more deaths. There is a lack of plant life in the reservoir, we are now looking into planting reed beds in the reservoir to help in future years.

We will be purchasing a “Dissolved Oxygen Meter” to monitor the condition of ALL our waters on a regular basis.

The weed problem on Cotton Moss was another major problem. After several years of “professional advice”, the weed was still very prolific.

A company from Lincoln was hired to assess and treat the water. This was carried out later than ideal but showed promising signs.

The same company will now be hired in early spring to treat more of the lake before the weed becomes active.

Encouragingly, Cotton Moss and Cotton Park have fished extremely well throughout the year with one or two exceptional catches in autumn.

Both lake have produced 30’s and the future looks very bright for these waters.

Brereton has also fished very well this season, with several upper twenty’s gracing the banks.

Members are reminded that you are required to “Pay and Display” as it is council property. Please also display your Wheelock AS Car Park Ticket in the window of your vehicle, (I will supply them on demand), and if you are stopping after the gates are locked, PLEASE let the rangers know.

The Plex has again fished well throughout the year with some good catches of carp coming in recent weeks.

On a serious note, there have been several complaints from members about the standard of behaviour on the waters.

These complaints ALL relate to one common factor. ALCOHOL

The club will NOT tolerate bad behaviour, and will deal with any instances reported to us VERY SEVERELY.

Please remember. We are an Angling Club, NOT a Pub Club.

The annual fees for 2007 will remain the same at £130 for adults, and £10 for Ladies and Juveniles and senior citizens.

Renewals are due from January 1st, and MUST be by post only. (Do not send recorded or special delivery).

Please remember to send a SAE 9x6 (Inch’s), together with payment, and ID card, or new passport photo’s.

My new address is 7 Marlow Close, Sandbach, Cheshire. CW11 3ZG.

Please keep sending photographs and catch reports to Dave Harvey, they are very valuable to the society.

The committee thanks you for your support, and would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

Peter Bailey

Secretary / Treasurer
